I have found my past two years at West Thames college informative and interesting but at times also very frustrating. There are things I have learnt and realised that I am very grateful for.
A unit I found interesting was period. I enjoyed the historical aspect of this unit very enjoyable and I like learning about culture through out the years. I did however find a lot of the make-up rather repetitive. Hair was something I struggled with in this unit and something I still feel needs practise on my part.
Theatre was a unit I really enjoyed as theatre is something I've always had a huge interest in. I did find a lot of areas in this unit hard like ageing and bald caps but overall I enjoyed this unit and I felt the teaching was of a particularly high standard.
The fashion unit during year one was a unit that I found the easiest to understand what was expected of me and I enjoyed the blog format. I feel that my magazine cover from this unit is one of my best pieces of work and is something I am very happy with.
Body painting is something I did not find very easy as it was a compleatly new medium for me to work with and unlike anything I have ever experimented with before. This is something that I enjoyed creative control with however and I would like to experiment more with this medium in the future.
For my final piece I made a few changes from my photo shoot. First of all I used a curling wand to curl the hair rather than rollers and this created more even curls and held the hair better. I also extend the ivy in the hair up to the crown of the head. I then made the eye shadow more intense and extended it out from the eye further and I added false lashes. For the lip colour a swapped the pink for mac's 'up the amp' which is a purple tone and added an inglot gloss over this to give it a slightly blue glaze. I also decide to mix some glitter into the illuminator on the body. My final change was to make the brows more intense by adding some black line to then. I then applied spirit gum and put silver glitter on them. I feel these changes really helped my look and I am very happy with the overall image I have created.

Photoshoot
Today marked the photo shoot of my final look.
I started by setting the hair in a middle parting in rollers and also using rollers to create the curls through out the rest of the hair.
I then moved on to make-up I did the eye look first as I did not want the eye shadows and glitter to fall on to the foundation and ruin it. For eye shadow I used colours from the Urban Decay naked pallet and Ben Nye pallet placing black in the crease and putting silvery greys on the lid. I also added a pearl white colour to the inner corner and brow bone. I then took some of the grey tones under the eye.
For the skin I first started by concealing any imperfections on my models skin using the derma colour pallet. I then used mac's face and body foundation mixed with some illuminator over the rest of the skin.
For the brows and liner I used an Inglot gel liner in a silver colour. I also lined the eyes with black to add more depth and applied mascara.
I then applied my lip colour and pressed the glitter over the top of this.
To dress out the hair I removed the rollers and took two sections of the hair back plaiting them as I did so. I then added the ivy looping it into the plaits. Finally I stuck the final ivy leaf to the forehead.
I am happy overall with the look but I feel some things need tweaking for the final show. For example I think I need to extend the eye shadow and make it bolder to stand out more. I also feel some false lashes will help with this. I am also going to make the brows bolder and add glitter to them. I think a stronger contour is needed. I am going to change the lip colour as it didn't make much impact and add more ivy to the hair.

Daenerys Targaryen
Another character I have taken inspiration from is Daenerys Targaryen from 'Game of Thrones'. She is one of the last confirmed members of the House Targaryen who once ruled the iron throne for nearly three hundred years.
In the TV series she is played by actress Emilia Clarke. In the TV series she has long white wavy hair that is often styled in a fantasy medieval way. use I am going to use this as a big inspiration in my hair styling. I have also decided I will take inspiration from her wedding dress in terms of costume.
She shares some similarities to my other main inspiration Lady Galadriel in that she is also of royal blood and is a strong and powerful woman in her world.

Final design
For my final design I have looked at all my inspiration and put together a look using key elements from my research.
Both the characters I am taking inspiration from have a very minimal natural looking make-up. I have decided not to follow this as I want the make-up to be the main focus and stand out. Therefore I have decided to enhance the idea of glowing skin that my inspirations possess by mixing the sleek 'barekissed illuminator' in Monaco in with my models foundation to give the skin an overall glow. I am then going to create an intense eye look using grey tones as I feel this will not only work well with my models colouring but it is a colour I have seen appear a lot in the visuals I have used to research. I am also having my model wear a grey dress so this will tie the look together nicely.
I am also going to create a strong silver liner using a Inglot gel eye liner and I will be putting silver glitter over this. I also want to repeat this look in the brows so I will be using the same product to fill the brows.
To contour the face I am going to be using colours from my super colour pallet and I will also a a lilac toned highlighter to the cheek bones to further enhance the ethereal glow of the skin.
For lips I have decided to create a pink glitter lip. For this I will be using the Bourjois Paris Rougue Edition Velvet in 01 for the base colour and applying a white glitter over this.
I will be adding more illuminator to the body to that is glowing too.
As discussed for hair I will be curling all the hair and placing it on a middle parting then plating two sections that will be pulled back and placing glittered ivy through the plait. I will also apply one leaf to the centre of the head to give to illusion of some sort of crown.

Elves
I have taken inspiration from the elves in 'Lord of the Rings'. I was drawn to their ethereal beauty and this is something I would like to capture.
One character I have particularly looked at is Lady Galadriel. Tolkien describes Galadriel as "the mightiest and fairest of all the Elves that remained in Middle-earth". She is of royal blood and is one of the most powerful women in middle earth.
I am going to use her description from the books and Peter Jacksons film series where she is portrayed by Cate Blanchett as inspiration. Therefore I will be create a hairstyle that is long and curly and pinned back. I am also going to add some fake ivy with glitter on it to the hair to enhance the elven look and create a visual link to nature.

A Song of Ice and Fire
A Song of Ice and Fire is a series of epic fantasy novels by the American novelist and screenwriter George R. R. Martin. The first volume of the series, A Game of Thrones, was begun in 1991 and first published in 1996. Martin, who initially envisioned the series to be a trilogy, has published five out of a planned seven volumes. The fifth and most recent volume of the series published in 2011,A Dance with Dragons, took Martin five years to write. The sixth novel, The Winds of Winter, is still being written.
A Song of Ice and Fire takes place on the fictional continents Westeros and Essos. The point of view of each chapter in the story is a limited perspective of a range of characters growing from nine, in the first novel, to thirty-one by the fifth. Three main stories interweave a dynastic war among several families for control of Westeros, the rising threat of the supernatural Others in the northernmost reaches of Westeros, and the ambition of Daenerys Targaryen, the deposed king's exiled daughter, to assume the Iron Throne.
Martin's inspirations included the Wars of the Roses and the French historical novels The Accursed Kings by Maurice Druon. A Song of Ice and Fire received praise for its diverse portrayal of women and religion, as well as its realism. An assortment of disparate and subjective points of view confront the reader, and the success or survival of point of view characters is never assured. Within the often morally ambiguous world of A Song of Ice and Fire, questions concerning loyalty, pride, human sexuality, piety, and the morality of violence frequently arise.
As of April 2015, the books have sold more than 60 million copies worldwide and have been translated into at least 45 languages. The fourth and fifth volumes reached the top of The New York Times Best Seller lists upon their releases.
With the popularity of the series growing, the HBO network optioned A Song of Ice and Fire for a television adaptation in 2007.A pilot episode was produced in late 2009, and a series commitment for nine further episodes was made in March 2010.The series, titled Game of Thrones, premiered in April 2011 to great acclaim and ratings . The network picked up the show for a second season covering A Clash of Kings two days later.Shortly after the conclusion of the first season, the show received 13 Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Peter Dinklage's portrayal of Tyrion Lannister.
The Lord of the Rings
'The Lord of the Rings' is an epic high-fantasy novel written by English author J. R. R. Tolkien. The story began as a sequel to Tolkien's 1937 fantasy novel The Hobbit, but developed into a much larger work. Written in stages between 1937 and 1949, The Lord of the Rings is one of the best-selling novels ever written, with over 150 million copies sold.
The title of the novel refers to the story's main antagonist, the Dark Lord Sauron, who had in an earlier age created the One Ring to rule the other Rings of Power as the ultimate weapon in his campaign to conquer and rule all of Middle-earth. From quiet beginnings in the Shire, a hobbit land not unlike the English countryside, the story ranges across Middle-earth, following the course of the War of the Ring through the eyes of its characters, not only the hobbits Frodo Baggins, Samwise "Sam" Gamgee, Meriadoc "Merry" Brandybuck and Peregrin "Pippin" Took, but also the hobbits' chief allies and travelling companions: the Men Aragorn son of Arathorn, a Ranger of the North, and Boromir, a Captain of Gondor; Gimli son of Glóin, a Dwarf warrior; Legolas Greenleaf, an Elvenprince; and Gandalf, a Wizard.
For economic reasons 'The Lord of the Rings' was published in three volumes over the course of a year from 29 July 1954 to 20 October 1955. The three volumes were titled 'The Fellowship of the Ring', 'The Two Towers', and 'The Return of the King'. Structurally, the novel is divided internally into six books, two per volume, with several appendices of background material included at the end of the third volume. Some editions combine the entire work into a single volume. The Lord of the Rings has since been reprinted numerous times and translated into 38 languages.
Tolkien's work has been the subject of extensive analysis of its themes and origins. Although a major work in itself, the story was only the last movement of a larger epic Tolkien had worked on since 1917,in a process he described as mythopoeia. Influences on this earlier work, and on the story of 'The Lord of the Rings', include philology, mythology, religion and the author's distaste for the effects of industrialization, as well as earlier fantasy works and Tolkien's experiences in World War I. These inspirations and themes have often been denied by Tolkien himself. The Lord of the Rings is considered to have had a great effect on modern fantasy; the impact of Tolkien's work is so common that the use of the words "Tolkienian" and "Tolkienesque" have been recorded in the Oxford English Dictionary.
Peter Jackson directed the live action The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, produced by New Line Cinema and released in three instalments as The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002), and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003). All three parts won multiple Academy Awards, including consecutive Best Picture nominations. The final instalment of this trilogy was the second film to break the one-billion-dollar barrier and won a total of 11 Oscars (something only two other films in history, Ben-Hur and Titanic, have accomplished), including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.
